15 July 2009Premier Classe introduces its new train route from Johannesburg to HoedspruitShosholoza Meyl, the long distance passenger rail service is proud to announce the introduction of its new train route between Johannesburg and Hoedspruit. The new route will start operating from Thursday, 16 July 2009. The history of the Premier Classe goes as far back as 2001, when the Premier Classe ran with only four coaches hooked onto the Transkaroo tourist service between Pretoria and Cape Town. During that period the Premier Classe could only accommodate 28 passengers. Due to the increase in demand, two additional routes were introduced with increased capacity of 76 passengers, namely: Johannesburg to Durban; and Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. With the new route between Johannesburg to Hoedspruit, the Premier Classe now boasts four routes. As part of the unique experience to passengers, this new route offers package deals with platinum lodges in Hoedspruit. The train will depart on Thursdays from Johannesburg, and will return on Sundays from Hoedspruit. As an introductory offer, passengers can expect to pay R980,00 per person one way; and R490,00 for children between the ages of 0 to 9 years, one way. The Premier Classe offers guests all the modern amenities in its sophisticated dining/lounge cars that include air-conditioning, plasma screens and DVD players. The conference coach is equipped with a flip-down presentation screen and various conferencing services. The Premier Classe boasts more spacious compartments and lavishly appointed bathrooms. The train also shows off its award-winning wines (voted Best Wine in 2007 and 2008 by Diners Club International), and impressive cuisine. The compartments are equipped with power sockets that cater for electronic devices to ensure guests can keep in touch with the outside world no matter where they are. Editor’s note: Shosholoza Meyl offers guests who wish to take their vehicles along, a specialised car wagon that carries most 4x4 and other off-road vehicles. This service is available on the Johannesburg Cape Town and Johannesburg Durban routes and will be introduced on the Cape Town Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg Hoedspruit routes in the near future. A chauffer service will soon be available on all Premier Classe routes, exclusive to Premier Classe guests. A Premier Classe VIP coach with double beds, more spacious compartments with ensuite bathrooms will be soon introduced to cater for our guests. Special environmentally friendly LED lights have also been fitted throughout the coaches for book-loving guests, while the conference coach can be transformed into an entertainment venue for after-hours leisure activities.
